Are you planning to head to the hills soon? While the current pandemic might have halted the plans, it is always helpful to be ready with things to carry while travelling to a hill station.
After all, you never know when the traveller bug might bite and you would be heading to the hills half prepared.
Whatsoever might be season be, you never know the unpredictable weather of the hills. It is always suggested that you should include heavy woolens in the list of things to carry while travelling to hill station.
If travelling during summer months, light woolens would do but it would be worthy to do a weather check prior to heading out. The hotel where you are planning to stay would be happy to guide.
In extreme winters though, woolens should be heavy including good quality jackets, caps, gloves and mufflers.
Good pair of shoes
Sandals sadly won’t help and you must include a good pair of walking shoes in the list of things to carry while travelling to hill station. Most of the hill stations have walking trails and you would find yourself stuck badly if you are not carrying proper walking shoes.
Cold will take over you rapidly as you climb the altitude. The problem of running nose is quite common in the hills, especially when you are not used to living in the hills. Handkerchief sadly won’t help much and you will find napkins quite handy and useful in such situations.
Keep care of cleanliness though and dispose off these only in the dustbin.
The list of things to carry while travelling to hill station must essentially include medicines. Motion sickness is one of the common ailments from which most visitors suffer as they are not used to the twists and turns in the mountains. Ideally, take some motion sickness tablet when you begin the travel and carry few for the way.
Some cold and pain tablets and lotions would also come handy in case of any eventuality.
You will always feel short of energy in the hills and a quick energy booster will lift your spirits. What better thing to do that than a chocolate. Carry some of your favorite chocolates and they will prove handy when you are out of your breath.
Though sunburns occur only at high altitudes like Ladakh but people who have never been to the hills can also suffer from the same at mid-altitude places like Shimla or Nainital.
The weather is cold and moist in the hill stations and a winter cream or a sunscreen should ideally be used when heading out in the hills. Do not forget to apply it when you reach the hill station in the first instance though as the skin also needs to get acclimatized to the surroundings, as you do.
Umbrella, some extra cash and a lot of energy need to be a part of the list of things to carry while travelling to hill station. You will definitely enjoy the trip.
